Mathletics

 Mathletics

This blog is about the math app "Mathletics".

Three things mathletics has helped me with is becoming a quicker problem solver, helping me with the area's I struggle in, understanding math better, and a little friendly competition between classmates, friends and people all over the world.

Two things I like about this app is that you can play against your friends or classmates. You can also play against people from different countries all around the world. Lastly, I like how it challenges me and how it has helped me become a quicker problem solver. Those are the things I like most about mathletics.

One way or thing I would change about mathletics is that they would show you how to do something. Mathletics is made for you to already know how to do everything in math and they don't have any directions for you to follow along with.

Mathletics is a great site and we use it all the time in class(If we have spare time or as an assignment)

Read this article

                                                                  Read this article

I agree with the author's points. Everything the author said is true. They are the most common math mistakes. What stood out to me the most was how many of those most common math mistakes I don't do. I can do everything they listed without messing up. I think I need to improve on integers and decimals the most.

Fractions

Fractions

I have always liked fractions which may sound strange considering its one of the hardest things for people to learn in math. I guess I just understand fractions and I have worked at them and practiced to get where I am now. Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions are probably one of my favorite things to do in math. I just understand how to find the common denominator, then how to add or subtract them, how to cross multiply, and how to invert then multiply to get the answer. I also like mixed numbers and changing them to improper or proper fractions.
I use fractions to make Kraft Dinner. Yup Kraft Dinner. I also use fractions to make rice, baking and kool-aid. I also use fractions in workshop, or for finding the percent of my completed assignments and for many other things in everyday life.

(I make my Kraft Dinner in the microwave) :D

Marks

Marks

Marks are super important in school, everything you do is because of it. Every assignment, test, and activity goes towards your grade (or are taken in for marks). I think that you should be marked on your math knowledge because you did the work to get there, plus if you don't feel appreciated you won't want to learn math but if you are credited for it you might actually want to learn math. But I also think you should be marked on your attitude towards math because if you don't want to learn you affect the whole class, the teachers and yourself. Whereas if you actually try to learn you could make the class run smoothly and have a positive influence on your classmates and teachers.
Marks are calculated by adding your total mark and dividing it by the total number of marks on the assignment (test etc.) and then multiply it by 100.
Nhi means that you haven't handed that assignment in and you should probably fix that because at my school everyday it's late 10% gets taken off your total mark.

Calculators 6 pros and cons

Pros and cons of calculators

One con to calculators is how much we rely on them. When we have math one of our first thoughts is to use a calculator.
2nd When you use a calculator you don't do any math. The calculator does all the work for you. It's alright to use a calculator for one question or to check an answer but I know that even I want to use a calculator for my math. But that's not the point you should do your math without using a calculator so that you know how to do it the long way.
Lastly the cost. Regular calculators cost about $10 but graphical calculators can cost more then $100.
One pro is that if you need to check over your work you can. You can see if you did something wrong and then try to fix it.
2nd you can use it check an answer quick. If you just need to check an answer it gives you quick access to the answer.
3rd you start to learn and understand technology more. Technology is and always will be changing so it prepares you for the technology ahead.

Math what's up with that??

In elementary school I was really good at math and I enjoyed it. But I think that is because it was just addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and I love that stuff. Last year I had one of the best math teachers there is. He did everything in the cirriculum, taught us how to do it, and would help us if we needed it. If you showed that you were trying to learn math and for example failed a test he would let you take it again. If you showed him that you didnt want to learn math he wouldn't waste his time. If you didn't finish an assignment he would make you do it instead of the one everyone else is working on. But he would show his disappointment in you which makes you want to do better and push yourself. I learnt so much last year but summer always washes what i learnt away like a wave on the shore. I still remember most of what I learnt but I might need a refresher.

Math in my life

We use math everyday and don't even know it. People use math at stores, to pay their bills, and they
make money every time they work. I use math when I am at school and when I go to Safeway. My
mom just paid $20 for the materials that I have used and will use in workshop. She pays for me to be
in band, dance, and soccer so she has to know how much the prices should be. She also pays a lot of
attention to the prices at stores as the cashier rings through the items. But before we get up to the
cashier she already has the estimated price in her head so that if the cashier does something wrong she can correct them and pay the actual price. She has caught many mistakes.
For me math is important so that I know how to pay my bills, taxes, rent, gas etc.. But also so that I know how to spend money wisely and can have a good career.

My 4 math app reviews

                     My 4 math app reviews

The name of the first app I reviewed was math heroes. I liked this app because I like how they interperate math into the theme of the game. I dislike this app as well though.  The thing I dislike about this app is that the math questions are super easy. I don't think this app will help me learn math because it doesn't challenge me. One neat feature on this app is the characters of the game. One way this app could be improved is with harder math questions.
The second app I picked was digit whiz. The thing I like about this app is that you can pick what categories of math you want to work on for example multiplication. Also you can choose if you want to race the computer, play by yourself or play with a friend/classmate. The thing I disliked about this app was that in every category it has the same games. I think this app would help me in math because the questions are harder and challenge me more then other apps do. One neat feature on this app is that you can play against the computer or classmates. One way this app could be improved is more varieties of games instead of the same ones.
The third app I picked was math champ. The thing I like about this app is that it asks different types of questions. It asks word problems, angles, decimals, adding fractions, prime numbers, and so many others. I also love the characters they're like little aliens. The only thing I dislike is that they go by grades instead of categories. You still get to do the same stuff plus more but you don't get to pick what you want to work on. I think this app will definitely help me with math because it has more varieties then other apps I have checked out. One neat feature on this app is all the different varieties of math you can play. One way this app could be improved is that the levels would be atleast up to grade 9.
The last app I picked was numbers. The thing I like about numbers is that you can make your own  spreadsheet and pick your own amounts etc. The thing I dislike about this app is that it takes a while to make your own spreadsheet. I think this app won't help me because it takes to long to make. One
neat feature like I said is that you can make your own spreadsheet. The thing that could be improved is if they had examples of spreadsheets that you could do.
(I said spreadsheet a lot!)
